Lake County Dispute Resolution Services Can Help...
Conflict is a natural part of life. The result of conflict depends on how you deal with it. We can use the situation to achieve productive results -- or we can let the conflict take control.

We can help you use MEDIATION to work out fair and lasting solutions to conflict -- quickly, informally, voluntarily and at minimal cost.

Mediation is a simple and informal process by which a trained, neutral mediator helps people in a dispute resolve the situation. There are no winners or losers -- resolution is the goal.

The Process...

When you call us, we will listen to you describe your situation to see if it the kind of case we can help with. If it is, we will ask for more information about the problem and the other parties involved. We will need names, addresses, and phone numbers.

With your permission, we will contact the other party involved and encourage their participation in a mediation.

A mediation session will then be scheduled at a time and place convenient to all parties.

At the mediation, a trained, experienced mediator will give both parties the opportunity to tell about the situation as they see it.

The mediator will not decide who is right or wrong or offer any legal opinions. The mediator will facilitate a process in which the parties can reach their own mutually satisfactory solution.

When resolution is reached, a written agreement is usually created and signed.

Agreements may be legally binding if both parties so desire.

About Us...

Lake County Dispute Resolution Services was organized in 1994 by a coalition of public and private citizens, professionals, community members, and agency representatives. We are a nonprofit community mediation program, serving all of Lake County. We are funded through court filing fees, mediation fees, and small grants and donations. Besides conducting mediations on request, we provide litigants in small claims court the opportunity to resolve their own disputes through mediation rather than having them adjudicated.
